A NINE man Llanelli Town were beaten by a Barry team that proved to have more class, romping to a 5-2 victory to make it six home wins in a row.

Barry Town began the game with vigour and a clear attacking intent. A corner in the fourth minute was met by Robbie Pattern whose header found the ‘keepers bottom right corner giving Barry the lead.

A minute later and Llanelli boasted an attack of their own. A free-kick was sliced up high in the air by Macauley Southam-Hales landed on the head of Joe Clarke who nodded the ball in, unmarked, despite the best efforts from Mike Lewis in the Barry net.

As half time neared, Barry attacked down the right. Southam-Hales was involved again. His cross found Cotterill unmarked in the box. Not believing his [Cotterill] luck, the onrushing Llanelli ‘keeper closed him down, making a good save. The rebound fell to Jonathan Hood who rifled into the bottom corner to give Barry a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Barry’s tactics mirrored their first half performance. Pressure from Lenny Evans on Luke Cooper lead to the latter making a mistake and Evans was one-on-one with the ‘keeper. His first effort was saved but the rebound fell straight into his path and this time he scored. 2-2.

Red mist descended in the fifty-ninth minute. A challenge between Troy Greening and Clarke left the former on the floor in pain. The referee spotted the stamp from the Llanelli captain and sent him off.

A cross from Southam-Hales found the head of Kayne McLaggon. His header rebounded off the post, and minutes later, a seemingly identical move from Barry found McLaggon again. This time his header went agonisingly wide.

The pressure from Barry finally found the correct result. What seemed almost a nothing cross beat Davies in the Llanelli net at his near post to give Barry the lead again.

Another red card for Llanelli in the eighty-fourth minute meant that the away side would have to finish the game with nine men.

Barry put the game out of Llanelli’s reach when a brilliant through ball by Greening found Clayton Green who took his time and fired into the top left corner to make it 4-2.

Barry were not finished yet though. McLaggon picked the ball up on the edge of the box, got clear of the defender and left the ‘keeper rooted to the spot as he found the bottom right corner of the net and made it 5-2, and that is how the game ended.
